China Now & Then Flip Books

Ancient China Mini Project -
Learning about the past helps up better understand the present, and one way to learn about the past is to contrast the differences between the way people lived back then to the way we live today. You are going to contrast what we have learned about Ancient China and what we have learned about present-day China in a Now & Then Flip book.

You may choose 4 topics to contrast now & then.
  • Technology/inventions
  • Clothing
  • Rulers/Heads of governments
  • Travel
  • Architecture (homes, buildings, walls)
  • Famous Chinese People (one from now and one from then)

After choosing 4 topics, you will compare and contrast what it was like in Ancient China to what it is like in present-day China. You may write this information using bullet points with complete sentences. Be sure that your spelling and grammar is accurate. You will need to include at least 3 facts for “Now” and 3 facts for “Then” on each topic.

You should also illustrate the front cover for each topic. Be creative! It doesn’t have to be drawn by hand; you can paste pictures that you find.

Be sure that you have accurate facts. You can use our Ancient World book, the Internet or books from the library to help you.

We have put the books together in class already so the students are familiar with the format and have it correct. They have also seen examples of what it is supposed to look like.

The scoring rubric is on the back of this sheet. This project is out of 50 points. It is due on Friday, March 18, 2011.
